The Altoona Curve (19-11) snapped a season high three-game losing skid
on Sunday evening, with a 3-2 victory over the Reading Phillies (13-15)
Jason Roach (pictured) got the win for the Curve,
allowing only one run on four hits over his six innings of work
Altoona's Brett Roneberg continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with an RBI
to push his hitting streak to 12-games

Curve salvage series finale - top Reading 3-2

The Altoona Curve (19-11) snapped a season high three-game losing skid on Sunday evening, with a 3-2 victory over the Reading Phillies (13-15)

Jason Roach (3-2) got the win for the Curve, allowing only one run on four hits over his six innings of work

Altoona's Brett Roneberg continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with an RBI to push his hitting streak to 12-games

For the third time in the three-game series, it was the team that scored first that ended up on the losing end
On Friday and Saturday it was the Phillies who overcame the early deficit, and on Sunday it was the Curve’s turn to come back

Reading started the scoring with a John Castellano solo-home run in the top of the first, but the lead was short lived as the Curve bounced back in the bottom of the frame
Craig Stansberry walked to start the rally, and after a balk and a passed ball moved him to third, he came around to score on a Brett Roneberg ground out, that knotted the score at 1-1

After matching zeros over the next three innings, the Curve jumped in front for good in the fifth
Once again it was Stansberry and Roneberg at the heart of the rally with a walk and single to start the frame, and both runners came around to score on a booming double off the bat of Simon Pond that gave Altoona the 3-1 advantage

The Reading Phillies tried to mount a comeback, scoring once in the eighth, but reliever Josh Sharpless got the final four outs to close out the Curve’s 3-2 victory and pick up his seventh save of the 2006 season

The Curve will head to Harrisburg for a three game series with the Senators beginning Monday at 6.05pm
Southpaw Mike Connolly (2-2, 6.11) will make the start for Altoona and will be opposed by righty Shawn Hil l(2-2, 3.34)

The Curve will return to Blair County Ballpark on Thursday to take on the Binghamton Mets, in the first game of a seven game home stand

Simon Pond's two-run double in the fifth inning led the Altoona Curve to a 3-2 Eastern League win over the Reading Phillies Sunday afternoon at Blair County Ballpark

The Curve (19-11) avoided a three-game sweep and snapped a three-game losing streak

The Phillies (13-15) had their three-game winning streak halted
Reading failed in its bid to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season

John Castellano gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the first with his second homer of the season
He knocked in the other Reading run with an eighth-inning single
Castellano was 3-for-4 and has hit safely in all seven games he has played with Reading

In the fifth, Craig Stansberry walked to start the inning
and Brett Roneberg singled to extend his hitting streak to 12 games
Pond then delivered a two-run double to center off Gio Gonzalez (1-2) to put the Curve in the lead

Jason Roach (3-2) allowed one run in six innings to pick up the victory

Josh Sharpless recorded the last four outs for his seventh save

Reading's Carlos Leon was 0-for-4 to end a 10-game hitting streak

The Altoona Curve halted their season-high three-game losing streak Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Reading Phillies

Jason Roach (3-2) held the Phillies to one run on four hits over six innings for the win,
and Brett Roneberg went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games

Altoona (19-11) fell to an early 1-0 deficit when Reading's John Castellano hit a solo home run in the top of the first,
but the Curve evened the score when Craig Stansberry scored on a groundout by Roneberg

The Curve took a 3-1 lead in the fifth when Simon Pond plated Stansberry and Roneberg with a two-run double


Reliever Josh Sharpless retired the final four Phillies for his seventh save of the season

Jason Roach pitched six solid innings to lead Altoona past visiting Reading, 3-2, on Sunday
Roach (3-2) allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out one to lower his ERA to 1.57
The right-hander has yielded just six earned runs over 34-1/3 innings in six starts

Josh Sharpless got the final four outs for his seventh save as Altoona ended a season-high three-game losing streak

Brett Roneberg remained hot at the plate for the Curve, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 12 games
