Cesanteado Edgar Alfonzo
Pastora de Los Llanos cesanteó a su manager Edgar Alfonzo y nombró en su lugar a Phil Regan, quien dirigirá a partir de este martes su cuarto equipo en la Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional
Junto con Alfonzo salieron también del equipo pastoreño los coaches Lamar Johnson y Frank Cacciatore, quienes al igual que Alfonzo trabajan como técnicos con los Mets de New York y fueron recomendados por Alfonzo para que trabajaran con Pastora
Regan asumió el mando del Pastora antes de la práctica de este lunes y de inmediato dio inicio a la reestructuración del cuerpo de coaches del equipo
El gerente general Rubén Mijares, el gerente deportivo Carlos Acosta, y el vice-presidente Enrique Finol se reunieron anoche con Alfonzo para enterarle de su remoción y hoy en la mañana designaron a Regan como el nuevo manager del equipo
Las siete derrotas consecutivas del Pastora en la semana recién finalizada y el bajo desempeño del equipo en todos los sectores del juego, obligaron a los ejecutivos del equipo a realizar el cambio de estrategas en busca de mejores resultados
Manager de Caracas y Magallanes por espacio de 14 temporadas, y del Cardenales de Lara en otras dos, Regan manejará su cuarto equipo en la Liga Venezolana, después de que había iniciado la temporada como coach de lanzadores

En su segunda experiencia como piloto en el país, Alfonzo duró 15 partidos al mando de los llaneros hasta que los malos resultados forzaron su salida
En su reemplazo fue nombrado el estadounidense Phil Regan, quien comenzó como coach de pitcheo de la novena

Luego, fue contratado por los Navegantes del Magallanes y, tras varios intentos, obtuvo el gallardete de la versión 2000-2001
Los Cardenales de Lara se hicieron de sus servicios en la 2004-2005 y lo renovaron para la zafra siguiente
Sin embargo, la gerencia larense lo despidió en diciembre del año pasado

Well, let me just say that today was the biggest waste of time ever and we still don't know what is going to happen at tomorrow's game!! (Tuesday 31st October)

That is, if there is going to be a game!!

We were all really 'pissed off' after another loss on Sunday
Then we are told we have practise at 11.00am on the off day on Monday
We get to the field at 10:30am and everyone is still in casual clothes
We ask what happened and they tell us Edgar Alfonso (the manager) is fired as well at the hitting coach and third base coach!!
They are all from the New York Mets so when the manager gets fired so does his coaching staff

We are told that after the loss on Sunday night, they tried to fire the hitting coach and end up firing just the manager
The hitting coach says "if he's gone I'm gone" so he leaves too
They offer the manager's job to the thrid base coach but because he came with Edgar and Edgar is his boss in America he decides to say no and he quits too

So they fired Alfonso and tried to replace him but didn't count on the other guys saying no

They then offer the job to the pitching coach, Phil Regan
He accepts the job and has a team meeting

Then the players have a 'players only' meeting and decide they wont play for him!!
I guess no-one likes how he managers and runs things - so they all say strike!!
If there is no new manager tomorrow no-one is going to play
All the big leaguers aren't going to play but we have to be unified in our response

During this time the Americans are baffled by it all - meetings have lasted almost four hours in Spanish

They have pretty much told us if Phil is the manager tomorrow there will be a forfeit

Unreal, and to tell you the truth, the Americans don't care as long as they get paid
We were told that if we aren't on the for the bus tomorrow we dont get paid
We are all going to be there - but whether the game is played, who knows!!

I will try to write about what happens over the next few days and keep you all filled in

At the moment, this place is a zoo!!

Everyone showed up and everyone played

And as you know, we lost!! - 4 runs to 3 - after thirteen innings!!
