"PLAYBALL" goes to our Extremities
Gareth Jones writes of the recent trip to Lismore and NQ

To start off the winter season, "Playball" visited Lismore, Cairns and Townsville in February.
We also plan to visit Rockhampton from the 8th to the 13th March.

Lismore was the first stop, where we visited the grades one, two and three’s at Our Lady Help of Christians School (South Lismore), St. Carthages Primary and Our Lady of Lourdes School (East Lismore).
We left the clubs a kit with which they can conduct further school recruitment clinics.

We arrived in Cairns on the 8th February and got settled in for a week of school visits.
The cyclone that developed later in the week brought a lot of rain with it that caused us to move all the clinics that week to undercover areas.
Whilst in Cairns we visited the following schools, St. Andrews School, Holy Cross School, Redlynch State School, Woree State School, Edge Hill State School, Hambeldon State School, Bentley Park State School and Caravonica State School.
When we arrived at Caravonica State School on Thursday, there was a torrent of white water rushing through the school oval, complete with Barramundi.
The week of school visits was concluded with with a "Come’n’Try" day.
The original plan was to hold it at the Martyn Street fields but after the week of poor weather we were forced to relocate to the “Shark Cage”, a local indoor sports complex.
A special appearance by Queensland Rams Claxton Shield player Brett Roneberg drew the attention of television station Channel 9WIN, who ran a segment and interview on Playball and Baseball in Cairns, as well as an interview with Brett (see the video below)

On the 21st February we travelled to Townsville.
The drive was almost cut short by flooding at Tully, but after a short wait the authorities opened one lane of traffic.
Townsville turned on the fine weather and the heat.
In Townsville we visited Garbutt State School, Bluewater State School, Mundingburra State School, Rasmussen State School and Willows State School.
On Saturday the Baseball Association of Townsville and Thuringowa held their "Come’n’Try" day at Jabiru Park, Condon.
Rasmussen State School was well represented on the day with a large turn out of children interested in playing.
Every new sign-on in the under eight and under ten age groups will receive a Playball MLB cap and shirt.

I would like to thank all the people involved with the program in these three areas for their support, especially the coordinators - Robyn Youngberry, Geoff Baxter, Jenny Warnock, Debbie Neate and Zoe Poljakow.
