The Pierre de Coubertin Awards Launch

Email to Brett from Milly Wagstaff of the Queensland Olympic Council
and the agenda for the Launch

Thursday 10th March 2005

Hi Brett

Thanks for being our guest Olympian at the launch of the Pierre de Coubertin Awards at Smithfield SHS on Tuesday 22nd March at 11am

To give you an idea of what this event means - the Pierre de Coubertin awards are held annually across Australia
There are 4 launches of the awards held throughout Queensland - one in Brisbane and three regional launches

The Pierre de Coubertin Awards is a major program of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Schools Education strategy
The New South Wales Department of Education, with the Australian Olympic Committee and the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games developed the strategy when Sydney was announced as the host city for the Games of the XXVII Olympiad

In 1995, the Queensland Olympic Council, funded by the Queensland Olympic 2000 Task Force, adopted the Pierre de Coubertin Awards Program

However, in 1998 Education Queensland took over the funding role aligning the program with the Australian Olympic Committee

The Awards program is named after the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin

The program is designed to emphasise participation and commendable sporting behaviour consistent with the Olympic Movement
It is not primarily intended to reward elite performance alone

Each Queensland secondary school is invited to nominate one student (only) from year 10,11 or 12 as its Pierre de Coubertin nominee

When we are closer to the date I will send through a general run sheet of the morning

The launch should take no longer then 45 minutes, and then you will be invited to stay for morning tea afterwards

You will be interviewed by Kim Cooper - Olympic Softballer and Chair of Pierre de Coubertin Awards Committee - just a couple of quick sharp questions regarding your Olympic career and how you began in your sport etc etc

If you have any questions please give me a call on 3217 2111

Thanks again Brett
