Dear Brett.

On behalf of the Australian Baseball Federation (ABF) and the entire Australian baseball community, I would like to congratulate you on winning the Silver Medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

You have without question been part of our best ever result and laid the foundation for a new age in Australian Baseball.

For that, I not only congratulate you, but also thank you.

I was fortunate enough to be in Athens to watch every game you played and was immensely proud, not only as ABF President, but also as an Australian and avid baseball fan, of the way the team represented themselves, our country and our sport.

You had the hopes and dreams of a nation resting on your shoulders and you played with great spirit, professionalism, honour and dignity at all times.

You should be immensely proud of yourselves, because your fellow countrymen (especially all the ABF members) are singing your praises.

Whilst those of us so closely involved in the sport always knew the team could achieve the success that it has, it is so very pleasing to see the team, the players, the coaches, the management and obviously the sport receive the praise, recognition and respect that they all have since you won the silver medal.

Once again, please accept my and all of Australian Baseball’s warmest congratulations and thanks.

I trust you enjoyed the Olympics as much as we enjoyed watching you play.

A comment made to me by Jeff Williams the night of the Gold Medal game sums up the feeling I hope you had and will pass on to future generations of Australian baseballers - “Nothing beats playing for your country!”.

Savour the moment…it is one you deserve and you will always be a memorable part of Australian Baseball’s history.

Warmest Regards
RON FINLAY
President
