Triple A Pawtucket righthander John Stephens and Portland outfielder Brett Roneberg could miss much of August to play for Australia's Olympic team.

"That's an opportunity I doubt we would hold them back from," said Ben Cherington, director of player development for the Boston Red Sox.

RONEBERG TO ATHENS

Outfielder Brett Roneberg finally reached a decision to join the Australian national team for the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Roneberg said he will leave the Sea Dogs on Aug. 10 or 11 and return on Aug. 25.

RONEBERG TO PLAY IN 2004 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

Sea Dogs All Star outfielder Brett Roneberg has decided to represent his native Australia in this year's Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The Australian national team is set to meet for the first time in Arizona on August 1st.
Roneberg, who is well into mid-season form will likely not meet the team for workouts in Arizona and will join the team as the Games get set to begin on August 13th.

Roneberg is hitting .284 and is 2nd on the team in home runs with 12 and first with 61 RBI.

He has also appeared in 99 games this year and was named to the Eastern League All-Star Game in Bowie.

Ronberg represented his Australian homeland in Sydney in the 2000 Olympics.

Brett Roneberg said Aug. 9 will be his last game with the Sea Dogs before joining the Australian baseball team in Athens for the 2004 Summer Olympics.
