The Olympic Village

A safe environment that is convenient, stress-free, friendly and respectful of multiculturalism will be provided.

All actions will be guided by an “Athletes First” philosophy where residents can enjoy the Greek spirit of hospitality with an extensive workforce that will cater to all residents needs on a 24hour basis.

Indeed, we are confident that residents and visitors alike will depart with positive memories.

The entertainment and recreation services provided for athletes in the Village will be extensive, support a wide scale of interests, and promote a positive state of mind for all residents.

The program will be inviting to all athletes that wish to be entertained, but will be sensitive to those who wish to focus on their competition or simply get away from it all.

The Olympic Village includes a variety of entertainment options where residents can enjoy their spare time.

A Sports Complex of more than 5,000 square meters with an Olympic size swimming pool, a jogging track, four tennis courts and state of the art gym facilities will be made available to all residents.

The Olympic Village is keen to introduce an Open-Air cinema in the evening hours under the stars.
There will be a Cafe, which will also operate as a dance club with live entertainment in evening hours.
Among the other features offered to residents will be games rooms, Internet cafes and an online Village daily newspaper.

The Athens Olympic Village will have two secure zones - the Residential Zone and the International Zone.
The Residential Zone will feature newly constructed apartments, dining facilities, recreational centers, meeting rooms, religious centers, a Polyclinic and a Transportation Mall.
In particular, all residences and offices of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will be housed in permanent structures.
The International Zone includes the main Olympic Village entrance, shopping centers, the Olympic museum, and the amphitheatre.

Residential Zone

The Olympic Village Residential Zone is the private area of the Village accessed only by athletes, team officials and accredited guests.

Here, residents will socialize and relax without any distractions.

This area consists of the housing area (366 buildings with 2,292 apartments).

All services in the Residential zone are free-of charge and most will be available on a 24-hour basis.

A total of 28 Resident Centers will be dispersed throughout the Village, where the following key services will be provided:-
------Front desk concierge with general information
------Problem solving and logistics
------Housekeeping and maintenance requests
------Lounge with TV, Info2004 terminals, telephones, fax, Internet access
------Beverages and Ice machines
------Lost and found depot
------Meeting rooms

A Transport Mall will operate and will provide a safe and efficient bus interchange for accredited athletes and officials to and from Olympic training and competition venues and the city center of Athens.

Within the Olympic Village, a Shuttle Bus will operate on a 24-hour basis.
The loop route is 4.2 Km.

The Polyclinic offers emergency medicine and the following specialties:-

------Otolaryngology (ENT)
------General surgery
------Dermatology
------Orthopaedics (sports medicine)
------Gynaecology
------Cardiology
------Foot and ankle (podiatry)
------Psychiatry
------Eye services
------Dentistry services (acute cases only)
------Physical therapy and rehabilitation services
------Medical imaging
------Laboratory services
------Pharmacy

Residents will enjoy additional services, including (among others) the following:-
------Library with music and video rooms
------Sports Information Center
------Religious Center
------Sports Recreation Complex
------Service Laundries

The Sports Complex and Swimming Pool at the Village

International Zone

The International Zone is the area of the Olympic Village where VIPs, invited guests and accredited media can visit and where residents and guests can have access to a wide variety of facilities and services.

Stores and Retail Services will offer a range of products, anticipating the needs of the residents.
All products and services will be provided at fair market prices.
Only Euros or VISA credit card payments will be accepted.

A store with the full range of ATHENS 2004 licensed products and other products of general use like sundries and hygiene products.

A bank and post office will be among the other services made available in this area.

In addition, a variety of other services will be offered, to include the following:-
------Cafe and snack bar service in an outdoor setting for 400 (pay-basis only)
------Info Booth providing details on Olympic events and ceremonies,
------------------Village information and publications,
------------------and material on things to do in Athens
------General maps of the Village and the transport system to and from Athens
------The Village Newspaper
------INFO2004 terminal
------Environment Booth
------A Press Center with working offices for interviews,
------------------and meetings with National Olympic Committees
------First Aid Station (affiliated with the Polyclinic)
------The IOC Museum with relevant exhibitions on the history of the Olympics
