Friday 21st March 2003 - an email from Brett after the game
For those of you that don't know, every now and then you get the chance to fill in at a "Big League" game.
Today wasn't my day to go -
until the guy going got hurt running,
and they told me to go.
I went over to help out against the NEW YORK YANKEES!!!
This is huge!!!
I will describe it to you all
a little.
Now bear in mind I didn't play,
but I got closer than most people will ever get to doing so!!!
Here is the Yankees line-up:-
Rafeal Soriano - $500,000 p/a,
Derek Jeter - 7 million,
Jason Giambi - 12 million,
Bernie Williams - 12 million,
Robin Ventura - 7 million,
Todd Zeile - 5 million,
Starting pitcher Roger Clemens - 10 million,
Closing pitcher Mariano Rivera - 5 million.
This is all the guys that played today that I was 30 feet from - and how much they are worth per year!!!
I would've been awesome
to get in against them but unfortunately I didn't
but hopefully by the end of this year I will be playing against
these guys for real!!!
(the Pirates actually beat this team today)
I just wanted to tell you
all this quickly as it was an awesome experience for me,
and hopefully one I will get to do again sometime soon.
Hope all is well and I will talk to you all soon.
PS - Matt Bolton (aka Joe Blake Snake)
See what you missed out on by not being here!!!
Sorry mate,
Had to say it!!!
---a note from Sharon
That would have been very
cool.
I got goose bumps when I read it.
I got the feeling even 'super cool' you were pretty excited!!!
Love you heaps,
Mum

Re the Yankees v Pirates game.
Just by reading your email, I got the feeling of how exciting
it must have been for you!!!
What a few hours it must have been!!!
One to file away in your "Memory Bank".
Good luck.
Love,
Dad.

My Goodness Brett.
For you to mention to anyone that you were excited and had
a wonderful experience give me goose bumps.
You have had so many and never seemed to put it in writing.
I can not imagine how you must have been feeling.
I know in my heart that you will be playing with them by the end
of this season.
Stay healthy and strong
My feelings are usually right.
